NORWALK, Conn. -- Highlights from recent games in the Cranbury Baseball League:
Mustang Division (ages 9 &10)
Gutter Guys 3, Tims Philly Steaks 3: Even an extra inning was not enough to break the 3 - 3 tie between Tim's Philly Steaks and Gutter Guys in a defensive battle. Tim's Philly Steaks broke the ice in the fourth inning, when Travis Lajoie (single, double, pitched) scored on a double by Evan Donahue (single, double, 2 RBIs). Gutter Guys answered with three runs in the fifth, including a two RBI double from Derek Faber scoring Tyler Cappadona (2 hits, pitched) and Ryan Whitney (hit). Tim's Philly Steaks tied it up scoring two runs in the top of the sixth. Stellar defense by both teams blocked any further attempts to score for the remainder of the game, including an extra inning. Tim's Philly Steaks rally was cut short when Kaden Lints (pitched) relayed a throw from the outfield to Gavin Kee who made the tag at home plate, knocking down the go ahead run. In the bottom of the sixth inning Michael Donahue (hit) threw a bullet to Luke Dube (pitched) to nail a runner attempting to steal second base. No runs were scored in the seventh inning. Other contributors of note for Tim's Philly Steak were James Boccanfuso (double, pitched) and Brendan Edvansen (hit). Peter Ragalski had a hit for Gutter Guys.
Village Gourmet 12, VAT Plumbing and Heating 5: Fueled by solid hitting and aggressive base running, Village Gourmet pounded out two five-run innings on their way to a win over VAT Plumbing and Heating. Village jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings on the hitting of Ryan Trani, Dylan Polka, Adam Peter and Sean Murawski. VAT mounted a rally of its own in the third scored three runs, closing the gap to 7-4. Ethan Liu (2-3, two RBIs), Jake Palmer (hit, RBI) and Ben Plaag (hit, two RBIs) powered the effort. One inning later Village answered with five runs on three consecutive walks, followed by RBI singles from Murawski and A.J. Cohen. The combined 13 strike-out performance of Trani, Murawski and Austin Hall kept it that way until the sixth when VATs Plaag boomed a triple and later scored on a throwing error. Pitching duties for VAT were handled by Shane Tracy and Ian Asanovic, who struck out the side in the 5th.
Bronco Division (ages 11 & 12)
O'Neills 11, Crown Trophy 4: O'Neills had its running shoes on stroking 12 hits led by A.J. Hall (3-for4, two RBIs), Larry Joyce (two hits, two RBIs), Zach Hurd (two hits) and Chris Clemens (two hits, RBI). James Cameron stroked a single and had an RBI. Hall got the win with five strikeouts over four innings and allowed just two hits, Hurd came in to pitch three innings of relief with three strikeouts. Tyler Cappadona was on base all three times and drove in a clutch run for O'Neills.
Laurel AC 12, DJK Fuel 2: For Laurel AC: Eddie McCabe hit two doubles, driving in four RBIs and scored one run. Alec Parker hit a two-run single and Quinn Sandor hit two singles and scored a run. Justin Buswell had a hit and scored twice. Oliver Harary stole three bases and scored two runs. Eric Hernandez hit a double and drove in two runs. Jake Cavicchia had a hit and scored a run. Chase Larkin also scored during Laurel AC's big second inning. Pitching was handled by Quinn Sandor and David Chuba, who combined on a two-hitter. They were backed up by a strong Laurel AC defense. For DJK Fuel: Renn Lints smacked an RBI double stole two bases in the first inning. Renn also put in a strong performance behind the plate. Clayton Bray hit a single in the fourth inning, driving in DJK Fuel's second run.
